Cardboard and spray paint
I’ve been clearing up in the studio, trying to create a space for working. These are samples for colours and tests for stencils.
I’ve been clearing up in the studio, trying to create a space for working. These are samples for colours and tests for stencils.
Unfortunately the studio was becoming cluttered so I’ve started to clear some space so I can get on with new stuff.
Exploring stencils, spray paint..
Looking a bit cluttered
Work in progress. Using this triptych drawing to design a new stencil. Trying out various colours and textures, seeing if I can produce a range of lines on different surfaces, card, paper and canvas.
Acrylic spray paint and POSCA pens on 4 stretched canvas panels.
Trying out a few ideas based on Bruce the mechanical shark from the Jaws film, always had a bit of an obsession with this, I love the film but it’s the illusions of old film effects that have always fascinated me. Seeing the film Jaws again a few nights ago, I've been wanting to use this image of the shark in a new work using stencils, POSCA pens and spray paint.
Just finished this spray paint demo. Working with my hand cut stencils. Knot, Heart quite complex and this is a first attempt at something more ambitious. Colour used : Apple Green, Frozen Raspberry, Bermuda and Citrus. All from Montana Gold range.
I don't like selfies, but just a word of warning a mask is essential when using spray paint. Latex gloves are also advised. I would work outside if weather was suitable and I intend to build an outside spray studio in the summer.
Filming a new demo. Working with spray paint and stencils. This is the knot stencil in 3 parts. Using Montana Gold colours : Bermuda and Citrus.
I'm filming a demo again today using the stencils I made a few weeks ago. Inspired by a negative comment on one of my videos. This is a play on words, the Knot and Heart are quite complex and took a while to cut but its worth taking time on these difficult stencils. I've always liked street art and graffiti, stencil work has been so popular recently due to the rise of Banksy and l always feel that it is an artform that anyone could have a try ( there's 1000's of YouTube demos to watch on the subject). I recently went to the Banksy exhibition in Glasgow and it was fascinating to see all the original stencils and examples of artwork. I know many disregard graffiti or street art, with these two stencils they really can be described as THIS IS NOT ART (Knot, Heart)
I’m working on the various colour options for this artwork. The 2 canvas panels will be available for a limited time.
The artwork from the latest YouTube demo is now available.
DUALITY can be ordered in a variety of colours for a limited time. Each is unique and consists of 2 canvas panels. 12” ×16”
Signed and dated.
I've just finished editing the new demo and it will be ready to view on the YouTube channel. The artwork shown will be available from the website shop in a few days, this is a limited edition and can be pre ordered for a short time only.
I’m continuing to film the new demo video today and I hope to have it ready for viewing on the YouTube channel later. I’m using Montana paint from the Gold series colours : Bazooka Joe, Frozen Raspberry and Shock White. POSCA pens are used for all the black outlines. This is a slow process so the video will be a series of close ups and details of the techniques.
Changed the page name to Studio Blog, hope this will encourage interest in the daily posts. The Squarespace website builder now makes it easier to post to the blog including adding photos. When I post demo videos on the YouTube channel I will include behind the scenes information and details of materials used. I’m continuing to film the new demo today and will finish this sometime tomorrow.
New demo on the way. Today I will be filming a demo for this new work that I've been designing and exploring for a few weeks. Using spray paint, hand cut stencils and POSCA pens, this will also be one of the new pieces added to my website shop. 2 canvas stretched primed panels 12" × 16" will be available in a variety of colours. If you have been following my posts on my socials you will know that I've decided to take a break. I’m not sure for how long but I feel using this blog page on my website will be a more suitable place to share my daily activities, without the constant advertisements. Please feel free to post comments and I will reply as often as I can. I want to make these posts daily and will show what projects I’m currently working on.
Acrylic spray paint (Montana Gold colours) and POSCA pens on 12” × 16” stretched primed canvas.
Exploring the use of spray paint and POSCA pens on stretched canvas for a series of new works. I’m really pleased to work with different materials and to create these very graphic and controlled artworks, abstract with elements of my other styles, themes of technology and artificial intelligence, robotic humanoid figures, circuit boards and musical instruments. I plan to work on larger scale pieces in similar style.
